Calor, is clearly the fuel supplier of choice in the retail sector, given its long term partnership with MFI, the largest retailer of kitchens, bedrooms and integrated appliances in the UK. The UK’s largest supplier of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) has kept MFI’s logistics operation moving for nearly a quarter of a century.
Operating out of more than 200 stores nationwide, MFI provides home delivery for all of its products. Last year alone saw 24.5 million items being delivered from its five dedicated Home Delivery Centres (HDCs).
For such a massive retail operation, where timely deliveries are the benchmark for customer service, maintaining a fast and efficient logistics network is vital. An integral part of distributing products right to the customer’s front door is the organisation and operation of a national fleet of forklift trucks.
Counterbalance forklift trucks powered by Calor LPG play a key role in the logistics chain for MFI Retail. The forklift trucks, now specified with three way catalytic converters, operate multi shifts throughout most of the HDCs. This gives flexibility through an uninterrupted fuel source.
The Hyster H9, LPG poweredcounterbalance forklift trucks operate within all the Home Delivery Centres, where they are tasked with loading and unloading drop bodies for product distribution to customers’ houses. Each drop body is filled with customer orders and then loaded onto the chassis cabs in the yard area. The nine tonne capacity trucks are fitted with pneumatic profile tyres which help minimise yard floor erosion.
